We would like to provide you with clarity regarding the physical inspection process and invoicing in Port Reunion.
Please note that all containers touching Reunion ground are subject to French Laws.
Process:
- Containers are randomly targeted by customs a few weeks before arrival.
- Once container is discharged in Port Reunion, customs authorities make the decision of a physical inspection.
- Maersk Reunion organizes this inspection based on customs and terminal availability so they could open the door and inspect cargo.
- Depending on who operates on the vessel, concerned stevedore moves container from yard to dedicated customs area for inspection. Maersk is always represented by stevedore SGM for stripping operations and acts on our behalf.
- After inspection, we receive the “Reconnaissance de service” which is the detailed report of the inspection that we are allowed to share and containing all relevant information (date, time, new seal, etc.)
- If inspection is negative, container is released by customs and allowed to load. We will then raise the related costs to your booking. This will appear as an Inspection fee import surcharge on your invoice.
Invoicing:
- Container move from yard to inspection area.
