On 18th October 2022, Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), an operating division of Transnet SOC Limited, sent an announcement to all customers, regarding the new effective date of the operations stabilization levy to assist in funding the increase in wage offer to Transnet Bargaining Unit employees through tariff adjustments, levies or similar. A proposal has been made to include an additional (interim) fee within the Terminal Handling Charge (THC), in order to alleviate the additional and anticipated cash flow pressures faced by TPT. As a result, TPT will charge an additional levy to be added to the THC (ie. an Operations Stabilization Levy), for the period 1 November 2022 – 31 March 2023.
The levy of R110 will be levied against all container imports, exports, and transhipments handled at the container and the Multi-Purpose Terminals.
Effective 1st November 2022* Maersk will recover this charge in the following way; a fee of R148 will be charged per container (R38 which is the current fuel neutrality fee and R110 for the operations stabilization levy).
- For Exports we will apply Port Additional Export or 3rd Party Fine or Expense Export Charge.
- For Imports we will apply Port Additional Import or 3rd Party Fine or Expense Import.
