Shipping to and from Myanmar

General procedure

1) Service contract agreement:

All bookings with Maersk require that there is a valid rate (price) agreed for the shipment, and that all legal and documentation requirements will be met by the contracting parties. If you have not had a service contract, quotation can be obtained from the website Maersk.

2) Booking:

The main channel to place booking with us is using Maersk when you have registered on our website.
Besides, we have option for you to submit booking requests via other EDI or e-commerce platform. Please contact our Customer Service Department for any help.
Booking confirmation will be sent to you via email within 2 working hours upon receipt (4 working hours for booking via email), except for Dangerous cargo and Out-Of-Gauge cargo where a more detailed case-by-case examination is required which takes longer time.
Booking amendment can be made through the website within the turn-time of 1 working hour.

3) Empty container pick-up and stuffing:

Upon receipt of a booking confirmation from Maersk, you can contact to empty location which is specified on each booking confirmation. The trucker should inspect the container and sign an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR) to affirm that the container is in good condition when released in his care.
*Full container delivery: Upon completion of stuffing, please use our specifically designated seal, which is delivered along with the container, to seal the container. For security reason, this seal must not be changed. In case the seal needs to be changed (the seal is broken or the container needs to be re-opened), please contact Maersk for a replacement of seal and this change of seal should reflect in your documents. Shippers are required to return the full container to our container yards, fulfill customs declaration and registration to the port prior to CY Cut-off time, which is specified in the booking confirmation. Here the EIR is used once again. In case of any damage to the container, truckers have to sign to verify the container’s condition before handing it over to the port. Once the container has entered the terminal and customs formalities have been completed, Maersk shall take care of the container.

4) Documentation:

Any export customs documents will not be accepted as replacement for Shipping Instruction (SI) and failure to adhere to the deadlines and procedure may result in shut-out at load port or misrouting with all expenses for shipper’s account.
All shipping instructions must be in English and can be submitted through the following channels:

• Maersk you are required to have an account to log in the website. Please contact our Customer service department if you need any web guidance.
• Inttra you are required to have an account on the website too
• EDI your company’s own system
• Fill in the Shipping instruction format and send via email to MNLGSCIDX@MAERSK.COM (Manual Document processing fee is applied)

*Draft bills issuance: draft bills (verify copy) will be issued within 8 working hours upon receipt of proper and sufficient shipping instruction. Draft bills will be posted on the website and only Transport document receiver can view the documents. Draft bills can be sent via emails if you cannot download them from the website.

*Draft bill revision: revision can be made through the website and free-of-charge if it is not relating to a check with destination customs. Upon receipt of your request, a revision will be completed within 3 working hours. In case of revision via email, you can send your request to MNLGSCAMD@MAERSK.COM. Please note that Transport Document Amendment fee will be applied.

*Payer party: should be select at the time submit shipping instruction, payer amendment after that will subject to Payer Amendment Origin fee.

*Payment term (SPOT Booking): Since we only accept surcharge whereas default in local currency (Kyats) to be paid in Myanmar, hence all other surcharges (in foreign currency) much be paid at other country or 3rd country.

5) Verify Gross Mass(VGM):

Shipper or Shipper’s representative should be taking full responsibility to provide an accurate Verify Gross Mass (VGM) to Maersk via Maersk as per specific deadline. Any fail submission or in accurate information will be subject to all penalty cost and or any other claim compensation to Maersk and or Maersk’s subcontractor including 3rd parties (if any).

6) Invoice:

Maersk is now issuing E-invoices which can be downloaded from My Finance (Maersk) after feeder/vessel departure and draft bills have been processed. Once payment has been settled and received, you can download the financial invoices from My finance (Paid Invoice).

7) Release Original bill of lading:

Release of Original bill of lading/ Seaway bill/ Telex release will be performed at Maersk’s offices upon receipt of full payment. We do not accept Release bill of lading against pay slip or payment order from banks.

* List of restrictions for cargo EXPORT from Myanmar:
WTO’s GATT, Article XX and XXI, permit WTO members to prohibit the exportation of certain articles that endanger public morals, threaten human, plant or animal life, involve the exportation of arms and ammunition, and similar items. The Department of Trade of the Ministry of Commerce has exercised its rights under these GATT provisions to prohibit the following exportations:

• Counterfeit currency and coins
• Pornographic material
• All kinds of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances
• Antique objects
• Arms and ammunition
• Wild animals and rare species
• Ivory
• Minerals and metals that are prohibited in accord with existing laws and regulations
• Crude oil
• Forestry products that are prohibited in accord with existing laws and regulations
• If in doubt, you should seek advice from the Department of Trade of the Ministry of Commerce.

* List of restrictions for cargo IMPORT to Myanmar:
WTO’s GATT, Article XX and XXI, permit WTO members to prohibit the importation of certain articles that endanger public morals, threaten human, plant or animal life, involve the importation of gold and silver, arms and ammunition, and similar items. Prohibited goods cannot be imported, exported, transited, sold or circulated in Myanmar. The Department of Trade of the Ministry of Commerce has exercised its rights under these GATT provisions to prohibit the following importations:

• Counterfeit currency and coins
• Pornographic material
• All kinds of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances
• Playing cards
• Goods bearing the emblem of Buddha and pagodas of Myanmar
• Arms and ammunition
• Antiques and archeologically valuable items
• Wildlife endangered species
• Other prohibited commodities in accord with existing law

Weight / Measurement

There are no limitations in any port as long as the weight does not exceed maximum allowable payload as per Container Safety Certificate (CSC) plate.
Maersk must approve for acceptance beyond Container Yard (CY) due to road and bridge limitations.

Special cargoes

Out-Of-Gauge (OOG), Break-Bulk (B/B), and Hazardous Cargo subject to Maersk Sealand's procedure and approval.
