Maersk has been closely monitoring the imbalance of import and export cargo at the port of Buenaventura in recent days. These factors, combined with recent holidays, are impacting the availability of transport vehicles in the Buenaventura corridor.
The port has experienced a considerable increase in the arrival of containers and loose cargo, raising the demand for transportation while there has been a decrease in the export of loose cargo and coal. This marked imbalance in the flow of cargo volume has created a limitation in transport capacity in both directions, mainly affecting articulated vehicles, mini-mules, and tractor-trailers.
We have observed that the time required to secure vehicles during this imbalance can extend to 72-96 hours. Therefore, we suggest coordinating your shipments in advance within these time parameters. Additionally, we recommend planning your shipments for December in advance to avoid shortages or increased costs in the supply chain due to the vehicle scarcity typical of this period.
Our teams continue to work tirelessly to find solutions to move your cargo on time. We will be monitoring the situation on-site and will provide updates and alternatives as soon as possible. Thank you very much for your understanding and patience during this time.
