Maersk has been vigilant about the capacity situation in the Buenaventura area following the closures on July 31 due to protests by indigenous communities in the Lobo Guerrero locality. These closures prevented movement to and from the port terminal, aggravating the situation due to the recent surge in bulk imports.

As a consequence of this situation, trucking capacity could not continue its normal rotation, resulting in a backlog of vehicles at various points across the country. This has led to a shortage of available vehicles near the terminal and a nationwide transportation crisis. Due to circumstances beyond Maersk’s control, we anticipate delays in the Buenaventura corridor, and we appreciate your understanding.

We hope that the backlog situation will stabilize within an estimated 15 days or sooner if everything proceeds smoothly.

Proactively, Maersk has aligned a contingency plan with its service providers to ensure the movement of trucks from other locations in the country to address the urgency caused by this cargo backlog. To activate this plan, Maersk is implementing a temporary surcharge of 600,000 COP for shipments that need to be mobilized before Monday, August 12. We will review the situation on Monday, August 12, and communicate any changes to the contingency plan based on developments.
