How Maersk Air Freight avoided supply chain disruptions for our customer during the festive season.
The Customer
An international food and agriculture company, the customer works on leading innovations in plant nutrition and food processing. Their integrated portfolio includes farming, ranching and cattle production, food processing, food brands, phosphate mining, fertiliser manufacturing and other agriculture-related enterprises.
Their major operations in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentina and China provide a diverse array of products and services around the world. With so many operations in multiple countries, the company needs to have a robust supply chain that can anticipate every disruption. They need to be able to transport cargo to various supply centres across the world smoothly and efficiently.
The Challenge
The customer faced a supply chain problem in December 2022. They needed support moving a crucial component for their potato processing plant on an oversized crate. This crate needed to be transported from Brussels to Tasmania. However, their incumbent provider was unable to transport the crate via air to the required destination. The customer then approached the Maersk Air Freight team for assistance.
The Solution
Since the crate was oversized, it was not possible to transport the shipment directly to Tasmania. However, our team in the Netherlands came up with the solution to air freight the shipment to Melbourne, Australia using one of our Partner Airline Carriers who had an aircraft capable of loading the oversize crate. Our local team in Australia received the oversized shipment and then transported it to a local ocean vessel for the last leg of the journey.
The Result
Despite the rush ahead of Christmas and New Year, the shipment departed as scheduled, arriving in Melbourne on time. Our local team transported the crate to its intended vessel to Tasmania, and it was delivered within the stipulated duration. The crate made it on time for the engineers who had flown in to install its contents in the factory. This ensured minimum downtime for our customer.
The customer was delighted with the customised solution we provided them. They said, “Thank you very much for the excellent attention, updates, care that you provided us during this transaction. It was an outstanding effort and smoothened out the whole process. Absolutely outstanding! I really appreciate the efforts to get this cargo moving and delivered.”
