On 29th May 2023, Pipavav port experienced a power failure as a result of strong weather conditions. Turbulent winds uprooted the power transmission towers of Gujarat Electricity Transmission Company Limited (GETCO) outside the port area resulting into a disruption of the grid power supply.

We are pleased to confirm that there has been no damage reported on personnel and infrastructure at APM Terminals. However, port side, CFS and yard operations have been suspended temporarily. GETCO estimates that it will take around seven days to completely restore the grid power supply.

We are monitoring the situation closely and striving to ensure the consistent movement of your cargo. Approximately, 717 containers of cargo were being held at Pipavav port at the time of the incident and our teams have been working steadfastly towards ensuring alternative solutions to move these containers. In the interim, captive power plants and generator sets have been activated to support the maintenance of reefer cargo.

Our teams have also directed all in-transit vessels to omit calling at Pipavav and instead berth at Mundra. These include:

  1. Vessel Q4B Maersk Atlanta
  2. Vessel S3R GFS Prestige
  3. Vessel D6D EM Astoria
  4. Vessel R8G CUSSLER

Our teams are actively diverting the cargo containers from Pipavav to Mudra using rail and road options which continue to operate as normal. There is a potential for delays in these movements over the coming days until the restoration of port operations at Pipavav, and we are working closely with all parties involved to keep your cargo moving safely and efficiently.

As your integrated end-to-end logistics partner, we constantly strive to minimize the impact of disruptions on your shipments and keep your cargo moving seamlessly. We understand that this situation is not ideal and regret any impact that it may have on your business. Please be assured that we are working steadfastly to keep your supply chain running.

We will continue to keep you updated on the overall situation. Please do not hesitate to reach out in case you have any further queries. You can get in touch with your local Maersk representative or contact us at:
