New Orleans has resumed vessel operations. Power has been restored to the terminal. We are still finalizing the onward line up.

September 02nd, 2021 - Update 5

Tropical Storm Ida continues to produce heavy rainfall and flooding throughout the Northeast.

Below please find our operations update:

Newark APMT & PNCT suspended operations around 22:00 due to heavy rainfall and flooding but have resumed operations this morning. Both PNCT and APMT are open and working. No significant delays due to work stoppage.

New Orleans remains CLOSED on Thursday, September 2nd.
There has been some success with restoration of power to the city however, the terminal is still dark. They have managed to get the gate house operating on a generator and are still running tests of the terminal system.
Depending on outcome, limited gate operations could resume for imports and empties beginning Monday.

Mobile has returned to normal. Gate and vessel operations have resumed.

September 01st, 2021 - Update 4

Tropical Storm Ida will product widespread heavy rainfall, strong winds, flooding, and isolated tornadoes, from parts of the Appalachians into the Northeast through early Thursday. We could see some productivity challenges, but no major delays are expected in the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast due to the heavy weather.

New Orleans remains CLOSED on Wednesday, September 1st.
Inspections of the terminal are underway. Lack of power in the terminal continues to hinder the ability to complete surveys and reopen for operations. Timeline to restore power in the terminal and city remains uncertain.

Mobile has returned to normal. Gate and vessel operations have resumed.

August 31st, 2021 - Update 3

Tropical Storm Ida is weakening as it tracks farther inland. Bands of heavy rain continue to spread north through Mississippi, Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and into parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia. Remnants will track through the central Appalachians, mid-Atlantic and off southern New England later in the week.

Ocean

New Orleans remains CLOSED on Tuesday, August 31st
There is no clear indication when the terminal will reopen as power will need to be restored. Limited surveys have begun as conditions allow. Flyovers of the port shows no major damage to yard or cranes, however further inspection will be needed. There will be a survey of the Southwest Pass later today to confirm if/when one-way traffic can resume. Contingencies are under discussion and will be conveyed as more information from terminal and partners become available.

Mobile gates are open, but channel remains closed to vessel traffic.
Survey of the channel is underway and opening expected later today with some potential draft restrictions. No major impact to vessel schedules at this time.

At this time, we are also experiencing delays with Original Bills of Lading being delivered to Norton Lilly, which remains closed. Deliveries by local couriers such as UPS, FedEx, and USPS are delayed and there is no ETA at this time. We are working closely with our partners and contacts at Norton Lilly and will keep you informed as to when they expect to reopen.

August 30th, 2021 - Update 2

Tropical Storm Ida made landfall on Sunday as a high-end category 4. Storm Ida is expected to weaken to a tropical depression later today over Mississippi with remnants tracking through the central Appalachians, then the mid-Atlantic later in the week.

New Orleans will remain CLOSED on Monday, August 30th
Potential date/time of reopening to be discussed pending the ability to survey terminal and review impact from the storm.

Mobile gates will be CLOSED on Monday, August 30th
Operations are projected to resume on Tuesday.

  • Maersk has no vessels alongside in either terminal
  • 758/Maersk Seville departed USNOL 8/27 and is enroute to USMIA

August 27th, 2021 - Update 1

Tropical Storm Ida is strengthening in the Caribbean Sea and is forecast to threaten the Northern U.S. Gulf Coast as a major hurricane this weekend. Hurricane watches are in effect from Louisiana to the Mississippi-Alabama state line, including the New Orleans metro area.

Mobile and New Orleans have set port condition WHISKEY

  • Sustained tropical storm force winds (39-54mph/34-47 knots) are predicted to arrive within 72 hours.

Terminals are open and working, but potential for closures over the weekend.

MAERSK SEVILLE has sailed New Orleans. MSC APOLLO is under operations in Mobile. Next Maersk vessels are scheduled for later next week. As of now, we do not see any impacts to vessels or cargo.
